Heung-min Son discovers Champions League ban for Tottenham’s semi-final against Ajax during TV interview
Heung-min Son did not know he was banned from the first leg of Tottenham’s Champions League semi-final against Ajax until he was informed during a TV interview. In an incident which mirrors Geoff Shreeves’ infamous conversation with Branislav Ivanovic after Chelsea made the 2012 Champions League Final, the interviewer asks Son how he feels about his suspension, to which the South Korean replies, ‘I didn’t know!’1Tottenham edged out City in a seven-goal thriller on Wednesday night, advancing on away goals after City’s dramatic 4-3 victory.Son played his part in the Champions League triumph, netting twice inside the opening ten minutes. However, he received his third European booking of the season after tugging Kevin De Bruyne’s shirt just after half-time. The 26-year-old will subsequently miss the first leg of the semi-final against Ajax at the new White Hart Lane in two weeks’ time.Spurs have relied heavily on Son for goals in the absence of the injured Harry Kane – and the South Korean could prove a huge miss.Rio Ferdinand, speaking as a pundit on BT Sport, was full of praise for Son following the thriller against City.
