Former Liverpool goalkeeper Andy Firth is joining Rangers in a shock January deal.Firth, 22, was part of Liverpool’s academy while Steven Gerrard, the Rangers manager, was starring for the Reds, and he represented the club’s Under-23s last season with Gerrard also working in the academy as Under-18s boss.The glovesman ended his spell with the Anfield club last summer, leaving Liverpool to join Barrow on a permanent deal.1

Firth is set to link up with Liverpool legend Gerrard

He has since played 18 times for the National League club, conceding 25 goals and keeping five clean sheets.But his time at Barrow is coming to an end after just six months with Rangers agreeing a bargain deal to sign Firth, The Sun reports. He is having a medical north of the border ahead of completing a switch to Ibrox, where he will fight with Allan McGregor and Wes Foderingham to claim the No.1 jersey.Firth joined Liverpool as an Under-11, and he thanked the club for all they had done for him when ending his lengthy association last summer.

McGregor has played 34 matches for Gers this season after being brought in on a free transfer last summer, with Foderingham forced to play a back-up role with just four appearances to his name.
