Aston Villa warning: Jack Grealish WILL leave if they miss out on promotion to Premier League, says former goalkeeper Mark Bosnich
Former Aston Villa goalkeeper Mark Bosnich expects Jack Grealish to leave the club if they miss out on promotion to the Premier League. The 23-year-old midfielder, who is still being tracked by Tottenham, has been in sparkling form for the Villans this season, helping the club reach another play-off final. The boyhood Villa fan signed a new five-year contract and was made captain by Dean Smith earlier in the campaign, with the manager tipping him to be the long-term skipper.Jack Grealish celebrates Aston Villa’s play-off semi-final victory over West BromGetty2

But Bosnich says the Birmingham-born stars future at Villa Park will likely depend on whether the club can secure promotion back to the top flight.Villa came agonisingly close last season when they were beaten 1-0 by Fulham in the play-off final at Wembley. He was strongly linked with a move away the following summer but, despite interest from Spurs, he ended up staying at Villa Park. However, Bosnich believes his former club may be left with no other choice but to sell their star man if they again fail to climb back to the Premier League this season. Speaking on Wednesdays Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the Australian said: I thought he [Grealish] was going to move on after last seasons defeat to Fulham, especially with all the trouble Aston Villa had off the pitchThe fact he stayed says a lot about him, because it would have been easy for him to move on.But if it happens again for the second season they may be left with no choice, both player and the club.Grealish, here celebrating with goalkeeper Jed Steer, has six goals and eight assists for Villa this seasonGetty2

However, Bosnich who made over 200 appearances in goal for Villa is confident his former club will make amends this season to seal their return to the top flight.Villa beat West Brom on penalties on Tuesday to go through to their second straight play-off final, where they will meet either Derby County or Leeds United, who play on Wednesday.I think Aston Villa can go up this time, added the former glovesman.I watched them against Leeds in that famous game when Bielsa let Villa score that equaliser.Leeds were a revelation at the start of the season, but theyve really run out of gas towards the end and I really fancy Aston Villa to go through.
